Cam Newton should absolutely be on the cover of ‘Madden 17’

It’s kind of hard to believe he hasn’t been on the game’s cover already.

Will Cam Newton be on the cover of Madden NFL 17? He is one of three players with the highest probability to make the cover, which is scheduled to be announced Thursday. Newton, J.J. Watt and Von Miller are widely considered the favorites to land on the cover. Those other two are great players, but how do you not put last season’s MVP on the cover?

The choice will be announced on SportsCenter at 6 p.m. ET. This will be the first time since Madden 10 that fans did not pick the cover model.

GAME MANAGERS: Dirk Koetter will have a dedicated game management coach. Learning from the mistakes of his predecessor. This is a very good idea, one more teams should borrow ... *cough* Andy Reid *cough*

WHY DID HE SAY THAT? Sam Bradford’s agent said some things about the Eagles that he probably shouldn’t have said. This has been one of the most poorly handled player standoffs in a long, long time.

DEZ BRYANT’S CONDITIONING: Stephen Jones says Dez Bryant’s injury issues stem from conditioning issues. Bryant has maintained that his foot and ankle injuries stem from being rushed back too soon.

OSWEILER IS SLOWLY LEARNING THE NEW OFFENSE: Learning the Texans offense is like learning a new a language, says Brock Osweiler. That’s probably not what you want to hear from the guy who just signed a four-year, $72 million deal, but he seems confident enough that he’ll pick up Bill O’Brien’s playbook.

MORE FREE AGENCY: The second wave of NFL free agency is coming. And there are still some solid players available.

LOCKETTE RETIRING: Ricardo Lockette is retiring. The Seahawks receiver suffered a brutal neck injury last November on special teams, and his neck just won’t ever be the same.

JOE MONTANA ON KAEPERNICK: Joe Montana has thoughts on Colin Kaepernick and 49ers front office. Joe Montana made an appearance on Sports Illustrated’s online programming recently, and naturally there were questions about Kaepernick.

HE’S BACK: Jason Campbell says he’s ready to return to the NFL. OK then.

THURMAN’S NEXT: Buffalo Bills sound ready retire Thurman Thomas’ No. 34 soon. “Stay tuned,” says team president Russ Brandon.
