Veteran defensive end Jason Jones signed with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, the team announced. It's a one-year deal worth "more than $1.5 million," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The signing brings to an end a multi-month stay in free agency for the 2008 second round pick.

Jones has recorded 9.5 sacks over the last two years.

Jones, 29, has played in 31 games and recorded 9.5 sacks for the Detroit Lions over the last two seasons. Despite that solid production, the Lions have opted to go in a different direction on the defensive line.
Jones’ NFL career got off to a promising start when he sacked the quarterback five times and was credited with 31 additional tackles during his rookie season in Tennessee. He averaged three sacks per season over the next four years before inking a three-year contract with the Lions prior to 2013.
During Week 3 of the 2013 campaign, Jones suffered a season-ending knee injury. But he bounced back nicely in 2014, playing in all 16 games.
At this stage in his career, Jones likely won’t be counted on to start on the defensive line. But his recent production has shown he can still be a dependable situational pass-rusher.
