The Buccaneers wanted Roberto Aguayo because he’s a “weapon.” Bucs GM Jason Licht talked about the decision to trade UP in the second round to draft the Florida State kicker, and it kind of makes some sense. He described him as “a weapon as a field goal kicker, a weapon as a kickoff specialist, and a weapon just all the way around.” This decision is either going to look brilliant or really dumb in a couple of years.
The Buccaneers didn’t draft a kicker, they drafted a ‘weapon’
So, that’s why they traded up in the second round to get FSU’s Robert Aguayo.
Licht compared Noah Spence to Tyrann Mathieu. Both players got kicked off their college teams for drug issues. Mathieu has worked hard to put his past behind him and become a star. Spence has the talent to be special, as well.
THANKS DAD: Did teams pass on Connor Cook because of his dad? Cook’s dad has a Twitter account that’s nothing but fire takes. He’s also the kind of parent who makes playing the game miserable for his son and anyone playing with or against his kid.
HOT TAKES ABOUT ADVANCED STATS: Kyle Long is not a fan of Pro Football Focus’ grades. The Bears lineman took a shot at the advance stats outfit and also shared his thoughts on the state of OL play in the NFL.
WILL SMITH RECEIVED HIS MBA: Will Smith’s widow received his posthumous MBA in Miami graduation ceremony. Will Smith is now the recipient of an MBA from Miami.
HOW THE JETS GOT HACKED: The inside story of how the Jets landed Christian Hackenberg. The Penn State quarterback won over Todd Bowles & Co. during a secret workout in early April, but he still wasn’t a sure thing. At the last minute, New York thought it would lose its man to his old college coach.
CELEBRITY CADDIE: Luke Kuechly was Greg Olsen’s caddie. Not a bad person to have toting around your clubs.
GOOD FOR THE FALCONS: The Falcons are the first NFL team to sign their entire draft class. That was fast.
IN THE NAVY: Navy secretary is “confident” Keenan Reynolds will play in NFL. Reynolds, who played his college ball at the Naval Academy, would normally be reporting for his five-year service commitment. He’ll still serve, but there’s a process they’ll go through, so he’ll get to play, too.
TOM BRADY LOVES TERRIBLE MUSIC: Tom Brady loves Vanilla Ice and all 1990s one-hit wonders. For a guy with four Super Bowl rings, Brady seems to have an affinity for one-hit wonders.
HATERS, LOSERS & PANDERING: Ranking the 2016 presidential candidates by their worst sports fan pandering. As Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton roll toward November, we’re not sure how the election will turn out, but we’re confident we’ll get more and more chances to add to this list.
TOUCHDOWN VULTURE: Will Robert Nkemdiche steal touchdowns from David Johnson? The Cardinals rookie defensive lineman has a little experience on the other side of the ball, too.
