NFL Week 1 preview: Don’t call Patriots-Cardinals the ‘Chandler Jones Bowl,’ that’s something else

The NFL is BACK! The Uffsides crew makes picks against the spread for Panthers-Broncos, Packers-Jaguars, Giants-Cowboys, Patriots-Cardinals, and one of the Monday Night Football games. Football’s back! It might’ve seemed like the offseason would never end, but it’s finally time to get the 2016 season underway. To kick off a brand new season of Uffsides, Matt Ufford and the crew preview the five best games of Week 1, including:

•Broncos-Panthers: The first opening-week Super Bowl rematch since 1970 will feature a quarterback matchup of reigning MVP Cam Newton vs. Trevor Siemian ... heretofore a man with one career regular season snap (though granted, he did show impeccable form on that kneeldown that suggests guaranteed future franchise quarterback).

•Jaguars-Packers: The Jags’ defense had about as sexy an offseason as you can imagine, not only adding stud free agents like DL Malik Jackson, FS Tashaun Gipson, and CB Prince Amukamara, but also what can be viewed as the equivalent of not one, not two, but three top 5 draft picks in DE Dante Fowler (returning from a torn ACL that wiped out his entire rookie season), DB Jalen Ramsey, and LB Myles Jack.

•Cowboys-Giants: With Tony Romo sidelined by a broken back, the Cowboys offense will feature a couple of exciting rookies in QB Dak Prescott and RB Ezekiel Elliott. The G-Men will hope the nearly $200 million they spent to boost their defense will provide more resistance than their sieve of a unit from 2015.

•Cardinals-Patriots: For the first time since 2008, a quarterback other than Tom Brady will start for the Patriots. It’ll be a tall task for Jimmy Garoppolo against the top-notch Cardinals defense, led by two of the league’s best defensive backs: Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu.

•Washington-Steelers: Can both of these teams lose? Is that possible? At least Josh Norman vs. Antonio Brown should be fun, I guess.
