The big weather news in the NFL Friday was the decision by the league to move Sunday’s early game between Pittsburgh and Kansas City to Sunday night primetime on NBC. The reason is that a significant ice storm is likely for the Kansas City Metro area Saturday into Sunday morning. This will have a large impact on travel and could even cause power outages in this area.
NFL weather forecast, Divisional playoffs 2017: Watching for an ice storm in Kansas City

Ice storm warnings are in place until midnight Monday Jan. 16, 2017 for Kansas City. So the NFL decided to move the game to evening to allow temperatures to warm and give crews a chance to improve road conditions and parking lots for the fans’ safety. The National Weather Service in Kansas City, MO has a summary of the possible impacts from this weekend’s storm:
Game-time temperatures in Kansas City are forecasted to be in the low-to-mid 30s but above freezing, allowing most of the precipitation to be rain.
As for the other games this weekend, Atlanta has an indoor stadium. Weather in Foxborough, MA will be chilly but calm and fair. T’storms could impact the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in the afternoon, so it is more than likely the Sunday afternoon game will be played with the roof closed.
