According to Page Six, Colin Kaepernick has agreed to a book deal worth around $1 million. The deal is with Random House’s imprint, One World.

Chris Jackson, the vice president, editor-in-chief, and publisher of One World, previously worked with author Ta-Nehisi Coates on a number of his books, including Between the World and Me. Jackson has previously said One World will “help us re-imagine our politics, culture, and interior lives, without the filter of the dominant culture.”

With that message in mind, One World’s deal with Kaepernick seems ideal in that the former quarterback has sparked a nationwide conversation on police violence and fighting abuses of power.

Kaepernick began protesting during the national anthem to highlight police brutality and systemic discrimination of black and and brown Americans. Though he is no longer on an NFL roster, his message has been well received and echoed by countless NFL players this season, despite the NFL’s attempt to co-opt the protest under the branding of unity.

The former 49ers quarterback has still not been signed by an NFL team, despite there being no concrete football reason as to why that is. Other, less qualified, quarterbacks have been signed instead.

Most recently, Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the NFL for collusion.
