A few weeks ago, we all ragged on Jay Cutler for doing his best statue impersonation while split out wide as the Dolphins ran the ball from the wildcat formation. In Week 8, it’s time to spread the love to Philip Rivers.
Philip Rivers did his best Jay Cutler ‘I don’t give a f---’ impression on a wildcat play
Rivers, and everyone else in Foxborough, knew he wasn’t getting the ball.

Rivers jogged from behind center to the left sideline as the Chargers got tricky with their third-and-2 playcalling. As Branden Oliver took the snap and ran right, the veteran quarterback watched before taking a casual stroll upfield.
It wasn’t quite as stoic as Cutler’s motionless stare into the middle distance. For one, Rivers actually walked his way up to the line of scrimmage and then made some attempt, albeit a very small one, to move forward. Cutler, on the other hand, didn’t even take his hands off his hips.
There’s a lesson here about putting your veteran quarterback at wideout in order to pull off a gadget play — it’s not going to fool anyone, so they’re not going to waste the effort — or face even the most minimal injury risk — to pose as a decoy. With Cutler and now Rivers providing excellent examples of how little these quarterbacks care about selling the receiver role, there’s only one man left we want to see split wide.
