Case Keenum’s hold on the starting quarterback spot in Minnesota just got a bit tighter. The former backup showed amazing poise in the face of a relentless Rams pass rush to push the Vikings into the red zone Sunday — and to delay Teddy Bridgewater’s triumphant return at least a few more series.

Teddy Bridgewater’s debut will have to wait a bit longer.

Facing second-and-10, Keenum stepped up to avoid the rush of Robert Quinn, ducked under a tackle from Connor Barwin, and floated a pass to Adam Thielen a split second before getting smashed by Michael Brockers.
The result of the play was a Vikings first down, but it should have been an even bigger gain. Referees missed contact to Keenum’s head on two separate occasions during the play, which would have resulted in a roughing the passer penalty and half the distance to the goal from where Thielen was dragged down.
What this means for the Vikings: Keenum continues to respond well to the added pressure of Bridgewater’s return to the active roster. Last week he threw for a career-high four touchdowns. On Sunday, he turned a swarming Rams pass rush into a circus act — and set the foundation for a Latavius Murray touchdown run that tied this game up at 7-7.
