Will Dak Prescott and the Cowboys be able to bounce back from one of their worst performances in two seasons?

Both teams will be playing on a short week when the Los Angeles Chargers travel to Texas for a Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET on CBS (live stream it on CBSSports.com).

These two teams were on opposite sides of winning last weekend, with the Chargers trouncing the Buffalo Bills to the tune of 54-24. Meanwhile the Cowboys could not get anything going offensively against the Eagles, resulting in a home-loss — on the night of Jerry Jones’ Hall of Fame celebration, no less — 37-9.

One of Dallas’ biggest problems last week was with turnovers. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw three picks against the Birds, in addition to one fumble, which should be pretty exciting for the Chargers, whose defense racked up five interceptions against the Bills in Week 11. The Cowboys will be without running back Ezekiel Elliott until Week 16 due to his suspension, so they’ll need to figure out how to reallocate some of their resources to create more offensive options.

Chargers vs. Cowboys news:

Oh, and those same Cowboys just played a very late Sunday night game, got dismantled and embarrassed, and have more drama than any other team in the league without question. The AFC West is a garbage heap, but the Chargers are currently sitting on a stinky throne of potential.

The fact is that there were so many issues for Dallas that it would take all night to tabulate them. They are in danger of falling back into the good year/bad year pattern of recent seasons, and now there may simply be no way to avoid it.

The Cowboys are now at 5-5, and face a huge hill to try and make the playoffs.

No one is going to confuse Melvin Gordon with the likes of Alvin Kamara or Kareem Hunt, but he also isn’t a complete slug. Melvin needs 10-15 yards of open field to build a full head of steam (poor initial burst) and a top gear that allows him to break 20-plus yard runs, but the fact that he’s only broken three runs of 40-plus yards in almost three years suggests he isn’t going to run away from most NFL defenses.

After getting sacked eight times last week, I can see how Prescott could be hearing the footsteps play after play. The Cowboys designed a lot of plays to get the ball out of his hands quickly, but even still — Prescott would rush his throws.

He would throw passes low to Dez Bryant. He would sail them over Cole Beasley’s head. He was off target several times and it stalled drives. For the first time ever he would throw three interceptions in the game. It was the worst game of his career.

Chargers vs. Cowboys predictions:

Our experts are split on this game, 4-4, in their Week 12 picks. OddsShark’s computer took Dallas.

Despite the Cowboys coming out with new motivation following their Week 11 loss, the Chargers are just too much defensively for Dallas to get much going. Los Angeles leaves Dallas with a big win on Thanksgiving, and Jerry Jones is left sulking for the remainder of his holiday.
