Coming off a short week following a tough Monday night loss, the Denver Broncos are hitting the road to take on the league-leading Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET on CBS (live stream it on CBSSports.com).

Denver will have a tough time bouncing back against the top team in the league in Week 9.

This will prove to be a tough matchup on both offense and defense for the Broncos, who have three straight losses heading into Sunday’s game. Sitting at 3-4, the team had a decent start to the year, with wins over the Chargers and Cowboys, only to fall thanks to poor and inconsistent quarterback play and lack of direction as an organization.
Trevor Siemian started the season looking like a developing No. 1 QB for Denver, who might be able to narrowly lead his team to the postseason. Then things changed. Siemian has looked bad the past few weeks, with his surrounding cast doing little to help things. They’ll face one of the scarier defenses in the NFL on Sunday, with Jim Schwartz’s Eagles crew making quarterbacks pay week after week.
The Broncos’ best and most talked about position group — the secondary — will face an improving Carson Wentz for the Eagles, who not only has reinvigorated the offense, but has also totally accepted the role of team leader halfway through his second season in the league. With the level of talent Philadelphia has at its skill positions, it’s hard to imagine the offense getting more weapons — but it did.
Just ahead of the NFL trade deadline, Eagles VP of personnel Howie Roseman pulled off a stellar trade with the Dolphins, bringing RB Jay Ajayi to Philadelphia in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. (Seriously.) Ajayi joins the like of LeGarrette Blount and Wendell Smallwood in the Eagles backfield.

Broncos vs. Eagles news:
- Philadelphia may be in a good spot roster-wise, but the Eagles were forced to place linebacker Jordan Hicks on IR earlier in the week.
- Denver has a very serious quarterback problem and few answers for it mid-season.
Siemian was downright atrocious, tossing three horrendous interceptions and taking three sacks. Only a last-minute garbage time touchdown salvaged his final stat line — 19-of-36 passing for 198 yards and a 43.5 QB Rating. He didn’t have much help from his receiving corps — there were a number of easy drops and the offense clearly misses Emmanuel Sanders.
- The Eagles keep strengthening their roster with moves to support Wentz.
The Eagles’ plan this season has been pretty clear: Get Carson Wentz a supporting cast that will enable him to take the next steps in his development, while adding pieces on both sides of the ball that can grow with him. Nothing about that plan is notable, as everyone else with a young QB tries to do that as well. It’s the aggressiveness with which they have done so that is impressive.
- Broncos’ RB C.J. Anderson knows they have to play their butts off in every game to finish out the season.
“Look, we’ve got to go 12-4 if we want to do anything. We’ve got to play better and that’s the truth. We’ve got to play better on the offensive side of the football. We, as playmakers, have got to make more plays. Running the ball good means absolutely nothing. We’ve got to find a way in our backfield to spring 40 – 50 – 60 – 70 yard runs.”
Broncos vs. Eagles predictions:
The Eagles defense proves to be too much for a struggling Broncos quarterback and offense to overcome, and Philadelphia gets the home win to continue leading the league — and NFC East — by earning an 8-1 record heading into the latter half of the season.
