Regardless of whether there are playoff implications on the line, the Dallas Cowboys versus the Philadelphia Eagles will always be a high-octane, division-rivalry matchup that is bound to get chippy. This year’s final game of the season for both teams will set up bragging rights for the whole offseason, and will kick off on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX (live stream).

With a very close win last week over the Oakland Raiders on the Christmas Day edition of Monday Night Football, the Eagles secured home-field advantage throughout the postseason. All the success has a bit of a cloud overhead with franchise quarterback Carson Wentz recovering from knee surgery and the team in the hands of former draft pick Nick Foles.

The offense struggled last week against the Raiders, but ultimately, the defensive front kept pressure on Derek Carr all night, and the secondary became turnover magnets, including one with just seconds left on the clock. With defense and special team units that are still flying high, the offense has a bit of a crutch as it limps into the playoffs -- but that won’t get them an NFC Championship or spot in the Super Bowl.

On the other side of the field, the Cowboys are coming off a loss to the Seattle Seahawks — one of only two teams to beat the Eagles this season — despite the return of second-year running back Ezekiel Elliott. Zeke’s triumphant return from a six-game suspension finished with 97 yards rushing on 24 carries and 21 yards receiving. It wasn’t enough to boost the Cowboys, resulting in a 21-12 loss.

It’s been a tough season for Dallas, which in addition to losing Elliott, lost six home games, accounting for all but one of their seven losses on the season. The Cowboys played host the last time they faced the Eagles in early November, with Philadelphia embarrassing the Cowboys, 37-9.

With the Eagles already playing through a lot of injuries on both side of the ball, it wouldn’t be surprising if head coach Doug Pederson doesn’t let his starters stay in for long. However, there are clearly some kinks that need worked out before Philadelphia should feel comfortable making a long postseason run.

Cowboys vs. Eagles news:

The Cowboys have been officially eliminated from the playoffs and the Eagles have sewn up the #1 seed in the NFC and have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

“I gotta get him as many reps as he can [get] and be smart about it. Obviously, we have a lot of football left. Our season really is just beginning, quit honestly. We’ll be smart. Make good decisions there as a coaching staff.”

“I know a lot about our coaching staff,” Jones said. “I certainly know a lot about Jason Garrett. Because of that, I can very quickly and candidly say his job is not an issue here at all.”

Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement nearly had an even split at running back. With that said, their stats look a lot different. Ajayi: 14 carries for 52 yards (3.7 average), two receptions for 21 yards and one touchdown. Clement: two carries for 14 yards (7.0 average), one reception for six yards. Ajayi is the flashy guy while Clement is relied on to the do the dirty work, such as pass protection.

Cowboys vs. Eagles predictions:

Despite the Eagles trying to mitigate injuries heading into the postseason, this is still a rivalry game and things can get chippy quick. Philadelphia won’t likely let Dallas get a win on its home turf, and the Eagles finish the season with the best record in the NFL, 14-2.

Our experts’ Week 17 picks are split right down the line, with four taking each team. OddsShark’s computer breaks the tie with a Philly win.
