Parts of a taped interview with President Donald Trump will be broadcast by Fox before Super Bowl 51. The interview segment is scheduled to air on Fox at roughly 4 p.m. ET.
Donald Trump’s Super Bowl interview: Time, TV schedule, live stream for Bill O’Reilly’s questions on Fox
President Trump will continue one of the traditions of his predecessor with a Super Bowl Sunday interview.
Prominent Fox News host Bill O’Reilly taped an interview with President Trump. According to Fox, only part of the interview will be aired on Super Bowl Sunday. The rest of the interview will be available online and broadcast during an upcoming episode of O’Reilly’s weeknight show.
Among the exchanges between Trump and O’Reilly had to do with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump said he respected Putin, even though he might not get along with him, in an excerpt released by Fox on Saturday.
“But he’s a killer, though,” O’Reilly said. “Putin’s a killer.”
“There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers,” Trump said. “What do you think — our country’s so innocent?”
The presidential interview became a Super Bowl Sunday tradition under President Barack Obama. President George W. Bush participated in a sit-down in 2004, but according to CNN’s Brian Stelter, President Obama was the first president to make it a habit beginning in 2009. Stelter also notes that the President Obama interviews were live, not taped, as President Trump’s will be.
O’Reilly interviewed President Obama in 2011 and 2014 when Fox had broadcast rights to the Super Bowl.
O’Reilly is a conservative commentator who has been one of the few television hosts to whom President Trump has granted interviews since winning the Republican nomination in mid-2016.
NBC has the rights to broadcast Super Bowl 52. The Trump administration has recently sparred with NBC News.
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick, and quarterback Tom Brady are supporters or friends of President Trump. There are no known affinities between the Atlanta Falcons and the president.
Super Bowl 51 is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
