Super Bowl coverage will begin bright and early, with hours and hours of analysis and interviews on FOX, the NFL Network and ESPN.
Super Bowl pregame show 2017: Performers and schedule of events
Coverage starts bright and early for everything Super Bowl related.
The big game will air on FOX this year, and the network will start its Super Bowl coverage with an NFL Films presentation of Road to the Super Bowl, featuring a look at the season that led to both the Falcons and Patriots facing off in Super Bowl LI. The pregame shows will continue with a full hour of Skip and Shannon: Undisputed, followed by the Super Bowl Kickoff show and then the Super Bowl Pregame show — yes, those are different things. The regular faces will be on the main set for FOX, including Howie Long, James Brown, Michael Strahan, Terry Bradshaw, and Jimmy Johnson.
The FOX NFL Sunday Pregame Show will also televise a little live music. Indie band Fitz and the Tantrums will open the NFL Tailgate Party, and country group Zac Brown Band will follow.
The network will also continue its tradition of interviewing the sitting president during its pregame show, something it’s done in years it hosts the Super Bowl since 2011. Bill O’Reilly is expected to sit down with the president at around 4 p.m. ET.
Ahead of kickoff, “America The Beautiful” will be sung by original cast members of Hamilton: An American Musical: Renee Elise Goldsberry, Jasmine Cephas Jones and Phillipa Soo, who starred as “The Schuyler Sisters.” They follow in the footsteps of performers like Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Faith Hill, and FOX will be airing the rendition live.
The final act before the big game will feature two-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan, performing the national anthem. Alongside Bryan will be Kriston Lee Pumphrey who will be performing both the National Anthem and “America The Beautiful” in American Sign Language.
The NFL Network kicks off its day at 9 a.m. ET, with a special edition of NFL GameDay Morning and continues for over eight hours. They have 25 analysts ready to go live from NRG Stadium and the Game Day Fan Plaza ahead of the big game. The main set will include hosts Rich Eisen, Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, and Michael Irvin. The show will be covering everything, including the teams leaving their hotels, the red carpet, and fan experience.
Interviews will air throughout the day with everyone from Mark Wahlberg to LeBron James to Serena Williams to Lil Jon and 2 Chainz.
Melissa Stark will interview Patriots coach Bill Belichick while Jeffri Chadiha will sit down with Falcons coach Dan Quinn. Andrea Kremer and Michael Silver will also speak with players including Julian Edelman, Nate Solder, Matt Ryan, and Alex Mack.
Over on ESPN, former Bills head coach Rex Ryan and Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will be special contributors on the Postseason NFL Countdown special. They will join Suzy Kolber and Hall of Famer Steve Young from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET at NRG Stadium. On the main set, Chris Berman will host the three hour show along with Wendi Nix and analysts Matt Hasselbeck, Trent Dilfer, Randy Moss and Charles Woodson.
And if animals are more your thing, three different networks will air three different bowls throughout the day: the Puppy Bowl (Animal Planet), Kitten Bowl (Hallmark Channel), and the pun-filled Fish Bowl (National Geographic).
There will be plenty of football talk ahead of kickoff, but it’s all leading up to when the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots take the field for Super Bowl LI.
