After bouncing around the league the last two seasons, running back Christine Michael is sticking around in Green Bay with the Packers, re-signing with the team. ESPN’s Field Yates reported the news.

Michael re-signs with the Packers after Eddie Lacy signed with the Seahawks earlier during the offseason, and James Starks still a free agent. He and Ty Montgomery make up the Packers backfield up to this point.

Every time the Seattle Seahawks thought they were saying goodbye to their former second round draft pick, they end up bringing him right back. Michael spent his first two seasons in the league in Seattle, before the start of a very weird 2015 and 2016.

The running back was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in at the beginning of the 2015 regular season, but was waived before the end of the year. He was signed to Washington’s practice squad, but was cut in December, and ultimately was re-signed to the Seahawks to finish out the season.

Ahead of the 2016 season, Michael was expected to see an increase in production, even in a backup role for the Seahawks. With the emergence of rookie C.J. Prosise, Michael’s snap counts started to decrease in Week 4. It was just two days after Prosise had a big game in mid-November, that the team once again waived Michael.

Seahawks running backs coach Sherman Smith later said, via the Seattle Times, “We don’t coach running out of bounds. Particularly if that yard makes a difference.’’

He wasn’t on the market long, despite effort concerns, with the Packers swooping up the rusher off waivers the next day. He finished the season in Green Bay with 114 yards on 31 rushes and one touchdown.

With only four years in the league, the running back still has a chance for a breakout season, but he has to find a long term situation with a franchise to do so. Green Bay may or may not be that place.
