Aaron Rodgers appeared on the Wilde and Tausch radio show on ESPN Wisconsin Wednesday, and was asked whether Mike Glennon’s payday in free agency means Rodgers is due for a raise.
Aaron Rodgers said there should be talks about his contract, then called it fake news
Hmmmm.

Host Jason Wilde tweeted about the exchange, just as Rodgers said on the show:
After saying that he thought it had to, Rodgers laughed and added, “I don’t think I need to expand on that.”
Rodgers is a Super Bowl champ, two-time NFL MVP, six-time Pro Bowler, and two-time first-team All-Pro. Right now, he’s supposed to make slightly more than $20 million next season. Glennon has started 18 games in his career with a 5-13 record and is projected to earn around $15 million per year.
Outlets began to run with the story, saying that it indicated Rodgers wanted a new deal. Rodgers called those reports “fake news” on Twitter:
To be fair, that sequence is exactly what it sounds like based on what Rodgers said. It also wouldn’t be an outrageous thought that Rodgers would hint at something to the media, as he did towards the end of the season.
Back in January after their NFC Championship loss to the Falcons, Rodgers said, “I don’t think we need to rebuild. We need to reload.“ He added, “We’ve just got to make sure we’re going all-in every year to win. And I think we can take a big step this offseason.”
There’s nothing wrong with Rodgers wanting more money. If Mike Glennon is going to get $15 million per season, there’s no question Rodgers deserves more with his career accolades and the way he finished up the 2016 season. The Packers were 4-6, and then Rodgers led his team to eight straight wins before running into the red-hot Falcons at the Georgia Dome.
Rodgers can call the reports fake news if he wants to, but they were his words, not anybody else’s.
