J.J. and T.J. Watt will meet in the NFL for Christmas Day’s Steelers-Texans game

This is going to be fun, as J.J. notes.

The NFL has its third Watt brother, officially. The Steelers drafted Wisconsin outside linebacker T.J. Watt on Thursday, 30th overall in the first round. He joins Texans defensive end J.J. and Chargers fullback Derek. All three brothers played at Wisconsin and are now at football’s highest level together. That’s pretty cool.

It’ll also be pretty cool on Christmas Day 2017, when T.J. and J.J. go head-to-head as professionals for the first time. The Steelers will visit the Texans at NRG Stadium that day, and barring injury, a Watt will be on defense all game. Pretty cool!

J.J. reacted to T.J. getting picked thusly:

T.J. is not J.J., because nobody is J.J. He’s the best defensive player in the sport, and nobody will expect the youngest Watt brother to be that good. But T.J.’s a quality player in his own right, with some combine measurements and highlights that aren’t that different from his big brother’s.

A few similarities:

“J.J. and T.J. are alike in a lot of ways — in their personalities, in their body frames,” a former coach told The New York Times in 2014.

At J.J.’s NFL Scouting Combine in 2011, he measured in at 6’5 and 290 pounds, with a 34-inch arm length and 11.125-inch hands. He ran a 4.84-second 40-yard dash and did 34 bench reps.

At T.J.’s in March, he was 6’4 and 252 pounds, with a 33.25-inch arm length and 11-inch hands. He ran a 4.69-second 40 and repped 21 times.

Plus, here’s a T.J.-batted pick-six, which looks exactly like something J.J. could do and has, in fact, done in the past:

Christmas is less than eight months away.
