Mitchell Trubisky got booed at the Bulls game the night after the Bears drafted him

It’s a tough crowd in Chicago.

When the Bears traded up to draft Mitchell Trubisky second overall in the NFL draft on Thursday, it caught literally everyone by surprise. Trubisky himself didn’t see it coming and didn’t get advance notice. His new coach, John Fox, reportedly didn’t either. The trade came out of the blue, and at least some Bears fans were not delighted.

On Friday, Trubisky did what many new draftees do: he went to another sporting event in the city of the team that picked him. In this case, that meant Trubisky showing up in Chicago for the Bulls’ first-round Game 6 against the Boston Celtics.

Here’s where this story takes a dark turn. Trubisky got booed. It reportedly wasn’t an overwhelming, malicious booing. Some applause was interspersed. But there was definitely booing of this QB who’s yet to take a professional snap.

Some reports:

Trubisky, for his part, was gracious. He took pictures with fans and seemed fine.

The Bulls gave him a jersey, and he looked happy.

It’s hard to blame Chicagoans for being a bit jaded about this. Jay Cutler was a decent quarterback there, but Bears fans never liked him. It’s been many years since they’ve had a quarterback that many of them actually liked. We’ll see if Trubisky can pull that off.
