I root for the Steelers, so this point pleases me:
Steelers drafted Joshua Dobbs with the same pick Cowboys used on Dak Prescott
Dobbs is an exciting pickup in the fourth round, for reasons other than this fun coincidence.

The Steelers drafted Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs in the fourth round of the NFL draft on Saturday. Dobbs does have some similarities to Dak Prescott, the Cowboys quarterback who took the league by storm this year. Both are ex-SEC quarterbacks with decent running ability who can also sling the ball around the field a bit.
That they were picked at the same juncture in the draft really doesn’t mean anything for Dobbs, aside from it being a cool point that he’ll get asked about at his first Steelers press conference. But there are reasons to be excited about the Steelers getting Dobbs this late in the draft that have nothing to do with this coincidence.
Here’s a collection of reasons Dobbs might be badly underrated. One of the biggest is his athletic ability. He ran a 4.64-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, second-best among quarterbacks. He’s a legit runner, but he’s also a prolific passer. He’ll be a pocket passer in the pros, but he can evade people and handle some designed QB runs. He’s also a literal rocket scientist, so you know he’s got the brains for this.
Ben Roethlisberger has flirted with retirement a few times, most recently after this season. He’s also 35 years old. Dobbs may or may not be his eventual replacement, but he’s a neat guy to bring into the fold with the 135th overall pick.
