Geoff Schwartz’s best bets for Week 6 of the NFL season

Retired NFL lineman and gambling man Geoff Schwartz picks the three games he’s loving in Week 6.

Hope y’all took my gambling advice last weekend. You’d be a tad richer heading into this weekend’s contests. Here are my three best bets of Week 6:

Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos +7

I took the Seahawks at home last weekend against the Rams, and I love the Broncos again in this spot as a home underdog. Home underdogs are a great value play and you’ve got a full touchdown here. The Broncos are struggling, I know, but they always play well in their home environment. Add in the cold weather and snow, and this play is exciting to me.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals -2

The Bengals are 4-1 and are easily the most overlooked team in the NFL and probably for good reason. When we think of the top teams in the NFL, like the Rams and Chiefs, they have dynamic quarterbacks. Andy Dalton isn’t dynamic, but the Bengals don’t need Dalton to be anything more than he is. The Bengals are a balanced offensive attack. They rank 10th and ninth, respectively, in rushing and passing, according to Football Outsiders.

Pittsburgh has been inconsistent this season, but it looked much better on offense against Atlanta’s depleted defense lat Sunday. The inconsistent part is what scares me about Pittsburgh. I know what I’m getting from the Bengals and I can’t rely on the Steelers, not on the road. And I know, the Steelers basically own the Bengals in Paul Brown Stadium. Throw that out and give me Cincinnati.

Carolina Panthers at Washington - Pick ‘em

This line has been going up and down, with Washington has high as 1.5-point favorites. Washington is a good team that was top 10 in DVOA before Monday Night Football, but it played like poop in New Orleans. Everyone has a stinker and now everyone is going to jump on the Panthers.

But I don’t know what to make of the Panthers. They have won the games they were supposed to win and lost the one they were dogs in, putting them 2-2 ATS. The best thing the Panthers do is run the ball and Washington has players to slow them down. Otherwise, this matchup is even so I’ll take the home team.
