Super Bowl 2018: What is the TV network rotation schedule?

This year’s matchup will air on NBC, but then not again until 2021.

This year’s Super Bowl, featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots, will be aired on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBC (live stream at NBC Sports), in a rotating schedule among the top TV networks. Last year’s big game was a FOX event, and the 2019 game will be aired on CBS. To finish out the current rights agreement with the NFL, FOX will host again in 2020, NBC in 2021, and CBS in 2022.

“CBS, FOX and NBC have served NFL fans with the highest-quality television production,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said when the agreement was struck. “The networks will continue their outstanding coverage of the NFL while also helping to deliver more football to more fans using the best and most current technology.”

Each TV network has its own version of special game-day events. In the years FOX hosts the game, it has a tradition of interviewing the sitting United States president in the hours leading up to kickoff. Neither NBC nor CBS go to such lengths as to sit down with the Commander in Chief, but they bring in a plethora of former NFL players and coaches to boost their pregame festivities.

Back in 2011, the three networks inked a new nine-year broadcast rights agreement with the NFL to host Sunday packages from 2013 through 2022. CBS Sports will remain the home of the AFC, while FOX will continue to host the NFC package — as it has since 1994. In the deal, NBC retained the rights to Sunday Night Football, the first Thursday night game of the season, and the Thanksgiving Day prime-time matchups. While most of these agreements play out as is, as the NFL expands its use of flexible scheduling, CBS will also broadcast the occasional NFC game.
