Bills draft pick Tremaine Edmunds is 19. He might be the youngest player in the NFL in 2018.

He’ll be 20 soon, at least.

Tremaine Edmunds doesn’t turn 20 until May 2. But he’s a first-round NFL draft pick at 19, having gone to the Buffalo Bills with the 16th overall pick on Thursday night.

Edmunds is a versatile inside linebacker out of Virginia Tech. He played three years in Blacksburg and declared for the draft after his junior season. No one’s arguing that Edmunds isn’t ready for this: He’s got great size at 6’5 and about 250 pounds. He tested solidly at the league’s scouting combine in March, where he ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash and benched 19 reps at 225 pounds. He had little left to show in the ACC.

Edmunds’ brother, a similarly versatile edge defender named Terrell, is also in this year’s draft, where he’s an expected late-second- or early-third-day pick. Terrell is 21 years old. So if you combine the ages of the two brothers who are going to play in the league at the same time this season, you get approximately one Tom Brady lifespan of 40 years.

There were no 20-year-olds in the league last year, according to this count by Pro Football Reference. Tremaine Edmunds will play the entire season at that age.
