Kadarius Toney dropped perfect pass, and it turned into an interception in Chiefs-Patriots

The Kansas City wide receiver keeps making mistakes

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

While the Chiefs are set to leave Foxborough with a win over the New England Patriots, righting the ship after a two-game losing streak, Toney keeps making headlines, for all the wrong reasons. Last week it was a critical offsides penalty that erased the potential game-winning touchdown, and led to both Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes getting massive fines from the NFL for their post-game comments on the officiating.

On Sunday against the Patriots, it was this disastrous drop of a perfectly-thrown pass from Mahomes that led to an interception:

This is a perfect throw from Mahomes, and if Toney reels it in it is likely a first down, if not more, for the Chiefs. Instead the receiver bobbles the pass and loses track of the football, gifting an interception to Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai.

New England would score a touchdown on their ensuing possession to cut Kansas City’s lead to 27-17. After the interception, a visibly frustrated Mahomes could be seen on the Chiefs’ sideline:

Coming into this week, much of the discussion around the Chiefs has focused on their wide receivers, and how consistent production has been lacking from that group this season. Entering Week 15 the Chiefs led the NFL in dropped passes, and that number looks to creep up given their performance in Foxborough. Add into that the fact that Mahomes has topped 300 yards passing in now just four games this season — after hitting that mark ten times a year ago — and you can see why their might be some frustration in Kansas City.
