Jalen Hurts breaks Cam Newton’s single-season QB rushing TD record

The Eagles QB made some history on Christmas Day

The Philadelphia Eagles have a chance to inch closer to a second-straight NFC East title on Christmas Day. With the Dallas Cowboys losing to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, the Eagles now just need to run the table to secure the division, starting with a win over the New York Giants.

Early in that game, their quarterback made a little NFL history.

Jalen Hurts scored from one yard out on a Christmas edition of the “Brotherly Shove,” and it marked the QB’s 15th rushing touchdown of the season:

That broke the previous record for rushing touchdowns in a single season by a quarterback, set back in 2011 by Cam Newton. That was Newton’s rookie season in the NFL, and not only did he set a new rushing TD record for rookie passers that year, but it broke the all-time record for quarterbacks. The previous record for rushing touchdowns from a QB in a single season was 12, set by Steve Grogan of the New England Patriots back in 1976.

However, Hurts might need to keep scoring to hold on to his new record. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has 13 rushing touchdowns of his own this season, and he has games against the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins left on the schedule.

Allen has played both teams this season, scoring a rushing touchdown in each.

Still, the record belongs to Hurts right now, and with Philadelphia’s success on the “Brotherly Shove,” it is very likely he adds a few more rushing TDs this year to extend his new record.
