7 strangest things in NFL’s Halloween graphic

The NFL put together a Halloween cartoon, but we have some questions

Happy Halloween, everyone. It’s that one magical night where kids dress up like ghouls and ghosts, adults find a way to make Patrick from Spongebob sexy, and everyone on the internet is trying to make special graphics for the spookiest night of the year.

The NFL decided to imagine the league as children, complete with appropriate costume — and some of these are absolutely off the rails.

Sure, it looks benign enough of first glance — but there’s a lot going on the deeper you look.

Trevor Lawrence as Jaxson de Ville

Jaxson de Ville is a top-two mascot in the NFL regardless of who you talk to, and Jaxson is probably not two.

The reveal that it is Trevor Lawrence under the costume? Well, it might explain some of Jacksonville’s struggles this season ...

Aaron Rodgers as Maverick

Look we get it. The Jets/Top Gun connection is easy to make. Aaron Rodgers as Lt. Pete Mitchell, callsign “Maverick,” is an interesting choice. After all Maverick is a throwback to yesteryear, facing “extinction” as was pointed out to him in the latest installment. He does things his own way, keeps a very close knit group around him who follow him from post to post, and is always questioning authority.

Ok maybe this makes sense.

D.K. Metcalf benching candy

D.K. Metcalf does not take days off from the gym.

Pete Carroll would agree.

Sam Darnold as Chucky

Sam Darnold’s resurgence with the Minnesota Vikings this year is one of the season’s best storylines.

But this choice? Not it.

Because as James Dator pointed out in the SB Nation Slack channel this morning, Darnold as a Ghostbuster was RIGHT THERE.

Justin Herbert as “generic middle school boy”

As a parent of an eighth-grade boy, who along with his entire friend group is basically going as himself playing sports complete with a game jersey with his name on the back, I can only assume that is the inspiration for Justin Herbert being dressed as ...

Justin Herbert.

Baker Mayfield as a Disney World fan

Okay NFL, we get that Disney is in Florida. That doesn’t mean Baker, who plays in Tampa which is not especially close to Disney needs to be a weird fan.

He could be Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. He could, I dunno, an actual baker. There’s so much to work with here and he’s just ... nothing.

C.J. Stroud as a Michael Jackson cowboy?

I... just... I mean... what?
