Who will the Kansas City Chiefs play in the Divisional Round after their bye week?

The Chiefs are the No. 1 seed in the AFC, which brings a bye week with it. Here’s who they will play in the Divisional Round in the 2025 NFL playoffs.

Sunday 1 p.m. Wild Card update: The Chiefs have their opponent for next weekend in the Divisional Round of the 2025 NFL Playoffs. They will face the Texans at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs hosted the Texans last month, with Kansas City wining 27-19. They have two playoff matchups in the series history. The Chiefs won both, winning 51-31 in the 2020 Divisional Round and 30-0 in the 2016 Wild Card Round. The Bills and Ravens both won their matchups as well, which means those two will face off in Buffalo.

Saturday 8 p.m. Wild Card update: The Ravens beat the Steelers 28-14. If the Bills beat the Broncos, the Chiefs will host the Texans in the Divisional Round. If the Broncos beat the Bills, Kansas City will host Denver.

Saturday 4:30 p.m. Wild Card update: The Texans thumped the Chargers 32-12 to advance to the Divisional Round. If the Bills and Ravens win their Wild Card Round games, the Chiefs will host the Texans. The Chiefs won’t know their opponent until Broncos-Bills concludes on Sunday.

The 2025 NFL Playoffs get underway on Saturday afternoon with the Wild Card Round. 12 teams will be competing to advance through to the Divisional Round. The Kansas City Chiefs are not one of those teams, as they secured the No. 1 seed and the bye week that comes with it.

The Chiefs opponent in the second round has not been decided as of Saturday morning. The NFL reseeds playoff teams after each round, rather than running a straight bracket. That means, after the Wild Card round ends, the NFL will reseed the three teams that advance in the AFC. Kansas City will face the worst of the other three remaining teams in the AFC. The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, respectively, and math dictates they cannot face the Chiefs until the AFC Championship.

That leaves four teams as potential opponents. The No. 4 seed is the Houston Texans, the No. 5 seed is the Los Angeles Chargers, the No. 6 seed is the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the No. 7 seed is the Denver Broncos. The Texans and Chargers are facing off in the first playoff game on Saturday. The Steelers are traveling to face the Ravens in the second game on Saturday. The Broncos wrap up the AFC’s first round schedule on Sunday when they travel to face the Bills.

If the Bills and Ravens both win, the Chiefs will face the Texans-Chargers winner. If one or both of the Bills or Ravens are upset, they would face either the Steelers or the Broncos.

While the Chiefs finished 15-2, they were one of the less dominant teams to accrue such a record. They ranked 11th in point differential and eighth in total DVOA. In spite of that, they are second in Super Bowl odds at +370, just behind the Detroit Lions.
