NHL Draft 2012: Winnipeg Jets Select Jacob Trouba With No. 9 Pick

With the No. 9 pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, the Winnipeg Jets have selected Jacob Trouba, a defenseman who plays for the U.S. National Team Development Program in the United States Hockey League.

Trouba, who will play for the University of Michigan this fall, is ranked No. 9 among all North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, and No. 9 overall by TSN. A native of Rochester, Michigan, Trouba had a 31-point season (9 goals and 22 assist) for the U-18 team in 50 games this season, his first full campaign after being called up from the U-17s last year. He logged three assists in six games for Team USA at the World Junior Championships.

Trouba has been part of the U.S. Under-18 World Championships team, which has won consecutive gold medals two years running in the tournament, including a goal in the gold medal game in 2011. He posted three points and was a plus-five at the 2012 tournament.
