With the No. 26 pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, the Vancouver Canucks have selected Brendan Gaunce, a centerman from the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League.

A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Gaunce is ranked No. 13 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. He was ranked No. 20 overall by TSN. He was a point-per-game playing with Belleville during the 2011-12 OHL season, with 28 goals and 40 assists in 68 games, showing off solid playmaking skills.
Gaunce has represented both Canada at the 2011 Under-18 Ivan Hnlinka Memorial Tournament and Team Ontario at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, notching four points en route to a second-place finish. Gaunce's older brother, Cameron, is property of the Colorado Avalanche, seeing action in 11 games with the big club in 2011 while currently logging his time with the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters. He was selected 50th overall in in the 2008 draft.
