NHL Draft 2012: Phoenix Coyotes Select Henrik Samuelsson With No. 27 Pick

With the 27th pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, the Phoenix Coyotes have selected Henrik Samuelsson, a right winger with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League.

Born in Pittsburgh while his father Ulf patrolled the blue line for the Penguins, Samuelsson is a powerfully built forward who started his journey towards professional hockey with the US National Development Team Program before heading to Sweden to play for Modo, and finally joining the Oil Kings this past season.

Regarded as a versatile forward who can play both sides of the puck, he isn’t afraid to get physical, but there have been concerns about his speed at the higher levels of the game. Scoring seven goals and sixteen assists in twenty three regular season games with the Oil Kings, he also contributed six goals and thirteen assists between the WHL playoffs and Memorial Cup.
