The Central Hockey League is set to start their season on October 15th. The Odessa Jackalopes and Colorado Eagles decided that they were going to settle their scores in the preseason though.
Who Says Preseason Games Don’t Get Nasty?
The Jackalopes forfeited their preseason game against the Eagles after two line brawls in a span of ten minutes left some of their players injured and a total of 111 penalty minutes from the Eagles.
Here’s what Odessa owner Rick Gasser had to say about the situation:
"Thursday night when we played them was like ‘Slapshot'," Gasser said in reference to the famous minor-league hockey movie. "Saturday night was a horror show. They should be ashamed of themselves.
"I'm asking the league for a lifetime ban for MacMillan, at least 20 games for Mario and a season-long suspension for (Eagles assistant coach Greg) Pankewicz, because he was the one running the team that night while their coach, Chris Stewart, was watching the game from the stands to evaluate."
Brad MacMillen, the player in question, had a total of 34 penalty minutes in the game including two fighting majors and two game misconducts. Odessa and Colorado will face off the first time in the regular season on November 30th
