It’s not a Friday night in Des Moines without a good fight, and this past weekend, it was the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints (no irony here) and Des Moines Buccaneers providing the fisticuffs.
VIDEO: USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints Live Up To Their Nickname In Line Brawl
Dubuque broke a three all tie in the second and tacked on two goals within a minute of each other in the third and the Buccaneers decided to take matters into their own hands.
Two line brawls and a goalie fight later and the game continued without nine players. Des Moines coach Regg Simon told the Des Moines Register how the bellicosity began:
“Things got out of hand late. I’m not sure where everything went sour. It might have been from them giving our guys a shot after every whistle and it never getting called. I think our guys got fed up with it.”
Video after the jump.
The box score shows eleven fighting majors, seven fighting game misconducts and two ejections The telling line comes at the end of the box score:
PENALTY TOTALS
Dubuque 87 minutes on 19 infraction(s)
Des Moines 113 minutes on 21 infraction(s)
There’s video. The fight begins at 1:20.
The referees in this one deserve a stick tap. The stripes chased fight after fight around the ice and stepped in between each brawl, dragging guys off of each other.
