David Shoalts Calls Coyotes Fans ‘Idiots’ In Radio Interview

David Shoalts of The Globe & Mail in Toronto does not like the fact that Glendale, AZ is home to an NHL team. In covering the ownership mess surrounding the team over the last few years, he’s had to apologize with his tail between his legs at least one time.

↵Now, it’s possible he’ll have to do say he’s sorry once again. In a Monday evening interview with Bob McCown on the FAN 590 in Toronto, Shoalts said the following while talking about a report that the Coyotes sale could be a done deal in just a matter of days. Shoalts’ segment starts just before the 28 minute mark in this audio clip.

↵↵I’ve never seen a story with so many liars. Even the guys who tell the truth don’t usually tell the whole truth. But it amazes me that this time around so many people, and I mean more than the usual idiot Coyote fans who populate Twitter and comment sites on newspaper and otherwheres (sic) all seem to think this is a done deal. (laughter)

↵↵It’s one thing if the guy is trying to make a legitimate point about the Coyotes situation, as he does immediately after the quoted portion above when he explains how so many other deals in the past have fallen apart.

↵That’s fine, but when you lead into that statement by generalizing a group of hockey fans -- just because they live in a place that you feel isn’t worthy of the sport -- as idiots, you automatically lose any legitimacy you once had.
