Stan Lee Is Giving Us What We Have All Been Waiting For, NHL Mascot Superheroes

Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League have been gradually increasing awareness of the league since the the lockout in ‘04. The NHL has been widely recognized as the league most open to trying new ways to bring in fans and is the most accessible to the blogging community. While those were small steps towards mass relevance, this... is one giant leap:

According to Variety, comic book legend and cameo superstar Stan Lee is creating 30 new superheroes based on NHL franchises. The superheroes will debut during January's All-Star game, and will be cross-promoted across several platforms (TV, movies, books, Jumbotrons). Each superhero is based on a team's mascot or their city, so the Anaheim Ducks' hero "wears a wet suit and wields a spear while riding a surfboard."

↵Whoa. Can you imagine the possibilities? The Indian from Illinois facing off against the foliage from Toronto? What about when fire meets lightning? Have you ever wondered what would happen if an Edmonton oil man met up with a... a... place in Washington?? Boggles the mind.

↵At least the Pittsburgh Penguin and the Colorado... uh... snowstorm will be friends.

↵Also, bring back the Whale (because who doesn’t like whale superheroes?).
