VIDEO: Pavel Datsyuk Records Gordie Howe Hat Trick, Loses Lady Byng On Opening Night

The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy is handed out each year to the NHL player who "best exemplifies sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct." (Yes, non-hockey fans, that's for real.)

Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings is a nice dude, and as a result, he wins this award kind of often.

Datsyuk’s conduct on Friday night during the Wings’ season opener, however, was anything but gentle, as the usually soft forward recorded a rare feat -- the Gordie Howe hat trick.

For the uninitiated, the Gordie Howe hat trick is when a player scores a goal, records an assist and drops the gloves in one game. It doesn’t happen often.

As you can see, Datsyuk even held his own against Anaheim's Corey Perry. According to HockeyFights.com, this was only the second fight in Datsyuk's career. Perry, on the other hand, has dropped the gloves 18 times.

So much for gentlemanly conduct.
