Fighting in hockey remains a tacitly approved part of the game that is more for show and for morale than anything else. It's still a bit strange to see Penguins star Sidney Crosby dropping the gloves, though.
VIDEO: Sidney Crosby Fights Matt Niskanen And Wins

↵Some may call this sort of scrap a fruitless effort to inspire a team down 4-1 in the second period. (The Pens lost 5-2.) Some (cough, cough) may call it an underwhelming fight that mostly involved roundhouses being blunted by visors.
↵But Penguins fans have to be heartened by their captain and leader throwing down for just the fifth time in his career. Crosby landed a few blows, and Niskanen fell first, so the win goes to the guy in white, but in this case, it’s less about the outcome than the statement made.
