VIDEO: John Tortorella Will Understand If You Break Alex Burrows’ Ankle

Alex Burrows did one of his most recent Alex Burrows-y things last night at Madison Square Garden, using his stick as some sort of emasculation device on Marc Staal. Here's the video:

Burrows got off without discipline, while Staal was sent to the box for the retaliatory trip. That’s usually what happens when someone retaliates, ball shot or no ball shot, but Rangers coach John Tortorella doesn’t really see a problem with it.

Here’s video of his post-game comments, courtesy of MSG. The fun part starts at the 4:40 mark.

Oh, it was ridiculous. It's dangerous. That--- that--- that--- the thing that bothers me is how don't you see it? And that's what was told--- that's what agitated me was that he didn't see it. And Sean Avery chips the puck in-- it's interference. But you know, that's a dangerous play on Marc Staal and it's just beyond me how two guys, one guy in the corner and one guy out at the neutral zone, can't see it.

And we end up down. Which usually happens if you retaliate, but if I'm Marc Staal, I'd retaliate too. I'd try to break his ankle. Something like that. It's ridiculous.

The Rangers win, 1-0, over a Canucks team that hadn’t lost in regulation in what seemed like a decade and Tortorella still has a memorable angry moment in his presser. Never change, Torts. Never change.
