After Fans Challenge Team With ‘Money On The Board,’ Blue Jackets Answer With Win, Equal Pledge

The Internet is pretty fantastic. This story out of Columbus this week is just another example of this. A Blue Jackets fan on Twitter decided to put his money up “on the board” like coaches and players in NHL locker rooms so often do as, essentially, a bribe to the Jackets player who scored the game winning goal tonight against the Red Wings.

↵Local radio publicized the idea and fans from all over began throwing their money in as well. By the start of Friday’s game, the donations were up over $5,000, with fans pledging to donate that money to charity. The Jackets put the total up on the white board in their dressing room for motivation.

↵Columbus beat Detroit on a shootout winner from Antoine Vermette, and after the game, R.J. Umberger told reporters that the team will donate $5,327 to the Blue Jackets Foundation.
