Good news: Ryan O’Reilly didn’t suffer a terrible neck or back injury when he tumbled into the boards in Minnesota on Friday night. The bad news, though, is that he still could be out for the season.
Ryan O’Reilly Suffers Shoulder Injury, Not Neck Injury
According to the Denver Post, O’Reilly suffered a shoulder injury on the play, and while the severity of it is still unknown, it’s possible he misses a good chunk of time -- perhaps the rest of the year.
The Avalanche said it will have an updated diagnosis of the shoulder injury, most likely on Sunday. O’Reilly, the team’s third-line center, flew back with the team following Friday night’s game.
If O’Reilly has a separated or dislocated shoulder, the chance that it could be a season-ending injury is real. Avalanche defenseman Kyle Quincey suffered a season-ending shoulder injury last month.
