As always with all-star games, the scoring is high for the 2011 AHL All Star Game. The Eastern and Western Conferences are tied at four apiece at the end of the first period.
2011 AHL All Star Game: East And West Tied Up At Four After One
Andrew Gordon from the Hershey Bears got the scoring started for the Eastern Conference, fifteen seconds into the first period, a new record for the fastest goal to start an all-star game. Gordon’s goal was assisted by Jerome Samson and Mark Wotten.
The Western Conference proceeded to go on a four goal run over the next nine minutes of the first period. Goals by Michal Repik, T.J. Hensick, Ilari Fippula, and Francis Wathier gave the Western Conference a 4-1 lead. Kyle Palmeri broke the streak at 13:47 of the first period and the Eastern Conference went on a three goal run to tie the game up at four.
Jake Allen from the Peoria Rivermen got the start for the Western Conference and made six saves on 10 shots in his only period of work. Martin Jones of the Manchester Monarchs made six saves as well for the Eastern Conference and will get another half period of work due to Braden Holtby not playing in the game.
If all star games have taught us anything though, this game isn’t going to be tied at four for long.
