The Philadelphia Flyers stayed perfect to start the season by picking up their third win in a 5-4 decision over the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks entered the final period trailing the Flyers, 4-3, but Daniel Sedin capitalized on a power play and tied the game at four. Unfortunately for the Canucks, the tie was short lived, as Andrej Meszaros put one beyond Roberto Luongo less than a minute after the game was tied.
Canucks Vs. Flyers Score: Philadelphia Outlasts Vancouver, 5-4
Both the Flyers and the Canucks took advantage of power play opportunities early in the game. The first three goals, two by Philadelphia and one by Vancouver, all came on the power play. With the exception of Sedin’s power play goal in the third, the teams failed to do more on the man advantages, finishing a combined 4-of-12.
The Canucks had put a relentless assault on the net of Ilya Bryzgalov, but the Philly netminder came up with 36 saves on 40 shots. Luongo faced just 27 shots from the Flyers and 14 of them came in the first period alone.
Philadelphia's Claude Giroux had a game-high three points, scoring the first goal of the game and then assisting on the next two.
The Flyers stay at home and host the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. The Canucks stay on the road and visit the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
