Drew Doughty Injury: Kings Defenseman Leaves Game After Big Hit

Drew Doughty has a history of concussions, and that’s a serious concern as he left Saturday’s game in Philadelphia after a big hit from Flyers pest Zac Rinaldo.

Drew Doughty left Saturday night's game between his Los Angeles Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center after a huge hit on the first shift of the contest.

Zac Rinaldo of the Flyers came across the middle near the blue line and caught Doughty with a relatively clean hit to the body. No penalty was called on the play, but a two minute charging penalty (as Rinaldo left his feet) could have been.

Doughty immediately went to the locker room and hasn’t returned to action. The team announced that he won’t returnafter suffering an upper-body injury.

The Kings’ defenseman, who just signed a massive contract with the club after a long holdout this offseason, has a history of concussions. There’s no word on if that’s what’s holding him out of the game, but that’s the big concern.

We’ll update when we know more. For more on the game, follow along with our Kings blog Jewels From The Crown or our Flyers blog Broad Street Hockey.
