Ducks Vs. Sharks Score: Teemu Selanne Scores Twice As Anaheim Wins 3-2

If familiarity breeds contempt, the Sharks probably hate the Ducks right about now. For the second time in four days, the Ducks beat their California neighbors to the north, winning 3-2 on Monday night. The two teams are headed in opposite directions, as the Ducks (4-1-0) have now won four in a row, while the Sharks (1-3-0) lost their third straight.

Teemu Selanne set the tone early for Anaheim with two goals in the opening period. Torrey Mitchell cut into the lead with a goal in the second period for San Jose, but Ducks right wing Corey Perry answered in the third with his second goal of the year. Brent Burns scored the final goal of the game on a power play, but it was too little, too late for the reeling Sharks.

It's hard to blame Sharks goalie Antti Niemi for being rusty; he was making his first appearance since last year's playoffs after undergoing surgery just before training camp for a cyst near his knee. He stopped 19 of 22 goals.

Backup goalie Dan Ellis was also making his first start of the year, giving Ducks starter Jonas Hiller the night off. He was spectacular for much of the night, stopping 41 shots.

“You don’t want to be the guy that loses a little bit of a streak,” Ellis said after the game, according to the OC Register. “In the same way, when you are on a little bit of a losing streak, you want to be the guy to snap it a little bit. You take pride in those opportunities.”
