Chris Pronger Injury: Flyers Defenseman Out 2-3 Weeks With Eye Injury

Chris Pronger is expected to miss two to three weeks after taking a stick to the face during Monday's game, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren told reporters after the game. Pronger suffered a cut near the outside of his right eye, and he'll be monitored closely over the next several days to make sure the swelling behind his eye goes down.

“He’s going to be basically on bedrest for three days, and the hope is that he’ll be fine within a few weeks from now,” Holmgren said.

The GM added that Pronger will visit an eye doctor every day for the next four days, after which time he’ll be able to resume an exercise program with the hope of rejoining the team within 10-14 days. Holmgren indicated that Pronger initially had problems seeing out his eye, but his vision did soon return. When Pronger returns, he’ll wear a visor to protect his face from further injury.

SB Nation’s Travis Hughes was in the Flyers’ locker room when Holmgren met with the media, capturing the general manager’s comments on video:

It was a scary scene when Pronger came off the ice -- he was screaming in obvious pain, with blood running down his hands as he clutched his face. Video of Pronger’s injury is embedded below:
