Dan Carcillo Faces Possible Suspension For Hit On Joni Pitkanen

Dan Carcillo of the Chicago Blackhawks could face a suspension for a Friday night hit on Joni Pitkanen of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Dan Carcillo signed with the Chicago Blackhawks over the summer, and before he ever played a game with his new team, he first had to serve a two-game suspension for an incident that occurred in last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals when he played for Philadelphia.

Now, seven games into his Blackhawks career, Carcillo is on the verge of yet another suspension. There’s no video of the incident, but here are a few still images of the hit, before and during.

Pitkanen was off balance and Carcillo gave him a very distinct shove from behind. The aftermath was a nasty Pitkanen tumble into the end boards. Fortunately, he was fine.

Carcillo is definitely a repeat offender, especially considering he was serving a suspension less than a month ago. He sat through a hearing with Brendan Shanahan of the NHL's Department of Player Safety on Saturday afternoon and his fate will be known shortly.
