The Carolina Hurricanes hadn’t scored a goal in six days, but that all ended Sunday night as they held off the Maple Leafs in Raleigh. Elsewhere, Patrick Marleau paced the Sharks and the Canucks held off an Ottawa comeback.
Senators Vs. Canucks: Vancouver Squeaks Out OT Victory Over Ottawa
Going into Sunday night’s game, the Canucks and Senators were both in 11th place in their respective conferences -- something most people would not have predicted before the season started, as many predictions included the Canucks on top of the West and the Senators dead-last in the East.
Vancouver continued to handle the game, as Ottawa, who went 0-for-5 on the power play still had difficulty setting up with the man advantage. However, once the Senators received their third power play of the night, they started to earn more quality chances, and ended up finishing the second period out-chancing the Canucks 10-6.

Detroit would continue to pressure, preventing the Ducks from gathering themselves, and appeared to be on the verge of extending their lead on the power play when a power failure (later reported as being caused by issues in the city of Anaheim) knocked out roughly a quarter of the electrical systems at the Honda Center, including some of the lighting over the ice surface and power for the television and radio broadcasts.
The 3-2 score would hold, despite a third period that was dominated by the Ducks, thanks to Howard and a few lucky bounces in his favor, before the Ducks drew a late penalty on Johnathan Ericsson with just over two and a half minutes to go, and Randy Carlyle would pull Jonas Hiller for the two man advantage early in the power play. The Ducks failed to find any clear advantages, however, and a bad pass by Koivu into open ice would be shot to the neutral zone boards by Brad Stuart, expecting it to simply serve as a clearing attempt, but the puck would carom perfectly off the boards and sail through the Anaheim zone before landing into the empty net for his second goal of the evening, icing the game (and the road trip) for the Wings.
