There are always several festivities associated with the Winter Classic, the NHL's annual game in an outdoor arena that always makes for a a must-see event, whether on television or in person. The festivities kick off with a game between alumni of the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers, the teams that will face each other in the actual game, which will be broadcast nationally on Versus at 1 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
Winter Classic 2012 Schedule, Game Time And More
Playing the alumni game for the Flyers will be, among others, Jeremy Roenick, Eric Lindros, John LeClair and Mark Howe, coached by Pat Quinn. The Rangers' squad will include Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Adam Graves and Ron Duquay, coached by Rangers legend Mike Keenan, who also coached the Flyers, will coach the squad.
The game itself figures to be a fun one, too — though it won’t feature Roenick, Lindros, Messier and Leetch, regrettably — since the Rangers and Flyers, as of Wednesday, are Nos. 1 and 2 in the Eastern Conference standings, and are clear contenders for the Stanley Cup nearing the halfway mark of the season.
Game Date/Time: Monday, Jan. 2, 1 p.m. ET
Location: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pa.
TV: NBC (National), CBC (Canada)
