Kevin Porter of the Colorado Avalanche has been suspended four games for a nasty knee-on-knee hit that occurred on Tuesday night in Vancouver. Porter stuck his knee out to hinder Canucks forward David Booth, who was turning toward the net after eluding a defenseman.

Pretty straight forward here: It’s a kneeing penalty in every sense of the word, and it’s only magnified by the fact that Booth was injured on the play. He’ll miss four to six weeks as a result of the play, which certainly played into the decision to suspend Porter.
Shanahan notes that there was likely no malicious intent on the play (aside from trying to stop Booth’s progress to the net), but the fact of the matter is that Porter stuck out his knee in a reckless fashion, and that’s certainly worthy of supplemental discipline in addition to the five and a game that was handed out at the time.
Porter will be eligible to return to the Colorado lineup on December 17 against Washington.
