After just a few starts in the AHL, Ray Emery has been called up to help the Anaheim Ducks earn a playoff position.
Anaheim Ducks Recall Goaltender Ray Emery
Ray Emery’s NHL comeback is complete, and it’s happened quite a bit quicker than anybody anticipated. In the face of a brutal Western Conference playoff race and continued health problems with goaltender Jonas Hiller, the Anaheim Ducks have recalled Emery.
Emery played just three games with the Syracuse Crunch, the Ducks’ AHL affiliate, since signing with the organization on February 7. In those games, Emery went 2-1 and compiled a save percentage of .925. By all accounts he seemed to look better than expected in his AHL work. After a year off from hockey, though, it’ll be interesting to see how that translates to the NHL level.

Ray Emery cleared waivers at 12 p.m. Eastern Tuesday and will be assigned to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, according to several reports.
It’s just the next step in Emery’s pretty improbably road back to the NHL. A year ago, he left the Philadelphia Flyers lineup with avascular necrosis, the same bone disease that forced baseball and football great Bo Jackson into retirement.
