Dallas’ Steve Ott scores the only goal of the first period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead over the Chicago Blackhawks. It is the first intermission lead the Stars have had since March 1st. Brad Richards found Ott coming through the neutral zone alone and hit him with a perfect pass and Ott found the back of the net. The only assist on the goal came from Richards.
Blackhawks Vs. Stars: Steve Ott’s Goal Gives Stars 1-0 Lead After First
The Blackhawks are outshooting the Stars in the first period 11-8 but Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtinen has played fairly well to keep the shutout going through the first twenty minutes. Lehtinen has all 11 saves in the first while the Blackhawks’ Corey Crawford has 7 saves. Michael Frolik from the Blackhawks leads all players with 3 shots on net.
The Stars are seriously outhitting the Blackhawks through the first as well by a margin of 13-3. Steve Ott has four hits while Karlis Skrastins and Tomas Vincour have two hits a piece. While hits can be a skewed statistic and usually that skew favors the home team, the Stars are showing more physicality in the first period.
