The Dallas Stars moved up the Western Conference standings with their 5-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks were two points ahead of the Stars heading into this game and now the teams are tied with the exact same record but Dallas holds the tiebreaker over Chicago.
Blackhawks Vs. Stars: Stars Leapfrog Blackhawks With 5-0 Victory
Steve Ott got the scoring started with two minutes remaining in the first period as Brad Richards hit him as he was streaking through the neutral zone and Ott was able to get the breakaway goal. The assists on the goal came from Brad Richards and Kari Lehtonen.
Jamie Benn scored 1:01 into the second period on a two on one with Mike Ribeiro. Ribeiro hit Benn with the pass and goaltender Corey Crawford was well out of position. 2:24 later, Brendan Morrow was in the same situation with Benn and scored to put the Stars up 3-0. Corey Crawford was pulled in favor of Marty Turco at that time as well.
In the third period, Jason Williams capitalized on a bad Marty Turco pass to put the Stars up 4-0 at the 2:54 mark of the period. Brandon Segal scored at 11:52 in the period as well to finish off the Stars 5-0 victory.
The Stars ended up outshooting the Blackhawks 27-23 in the game and Dallas’ goaltender Kari Lehtonen pitched the shutout with 23 saves. Corey Crawford got the start for the Hawks but was pulled after allowing three goals on ten shots. Marty Turco replaced him and allowed two goals on 17 shots.
