Kings Vs. Red Wings: Los Angeles Gets Third Win Over Red Wings With Two Second Period Goals

In the three previous matchups between these two teams, there was a minimum of five goals scored between the teams. On Wednesday night, only three were scored and it only took two to win. Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar each scored for the Kings to give them a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings.

The Red Wings opened the scoring with a Darren Helm goal 5:57 into the first period. His goal was assisted by Justin Abdelkader and Kris Draper. That was the only goal that the Red Wings could manage on Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick. Quick made 28 saves on 29 shots in the winning effort for the Kings.

The Los Angeles Kings couldn’t find their offensive flow in the first period, being outshot 11-3. The Kings were able to find the net in the second and third periods, outshooting the Red Wings 23-18 in the final two periods. Jimmy Howard made 24 saves in the losing effort for the Red Wings.

The Red Wings will face the Edmonton Oilers while the Kings will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
